Despite the warmest January on record, the world’s climate may have chilled in February. Global estimates haven’t been released yet, but the United States shivered under Arctic blasts and experienced the 34th coldest February since 1895.
Blizzards, cold snaps and black ice gave Ohio and West Virginia their fourth coldest second month on record, while six states were warmer than average, including Alaska. But it wasn’t exactly a heat wave.
With temperatures averaging 1.4° F above the 1971-2000 average, Alaska saw its 42nd warmest Feb since 1918.
